Does the 2019 Toyota Camry Have Blind Spot Monitor?

Does the 2019 Toyota Camry Have Blind Spot Monitor?

GCH Automotive |

Maybe. On the 2019 Toyota Camry, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert was standard on the XLE and XSE, and an extra-cost option on the L, LE and SE. Lots of lower-trim Camrys were sold without the option, so the only way to know is to check yours.

Does the 2019 Toyota Camry have blind spot monitor? By trim

  • L, LE, SE: optional, not standard
  • XLE, XSE: standard

Here's the catch. The 2019 Camry came with Toyota Safety Sense-P on every trim, so you get pre-collision braking and lane departure alert either way. Blind Spot Monitor is a separate feature, and that's the one that tends to be missing on an LE or SE.

Three quick ways to check your Camry

  1. Look at the side mirrors. Toyota's system puts a little warning light in each outside mirror. Blank glass means no BSM.
  2. Back out of a parking spot. If your car has Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, it beeps and flashes the mirror lights when a car approaches from the side while you're in reverse.
  3. Find the window sticker. If the original sticker lists a blind spot package, you have it. A dealer can also look it up from your VIN.

How Toyota's version works

Toyota uses radar sensors behind the rear bumper. When a car sits in your blind spot, the matching mirror light turns on. Signal toward that car and the light flashes. In reverse, the same radar listens for cross traffic and warns you. Toyota still tells drivers to check mirrors and turn their heads, and that's good advice with any system.

Adding blind spot detection to a Camry that didn't get it

Our Authentic OEM BlindSpot Detection with Cross Traffic Detection is a radar system built from original equipment parts. Per the listing:

  • The radar mounts behind a plastic bumper cover, like the Camry's
  • Cross traffic detection is built in, so you get the backing-out warning too
  • It comes in a CAN version and a VSS version. The listing says Toyota, Lexus and Subaru usually use the VSS setup, which connects to the vehicle speed signal wire inside the cabin

Send GCH your VIN and we'll confirm which version fits your Camry before you order.

FAQ

Does Toyota Safety Sense include blind spot monitor on the 2019 Camry?

No. TSS-P was standard, but Blind Spot Monitor was a separate feature, standard only on XLE and XSE.

Does the Camry Hybrid follow the same rules?

Hybrid trims were packaged differently, so check your mirrors or window sticker rather than going by the gas-model breakdown.

Why do automakers save this for higher trims?

We covered it in Why isn't blind spot warning standard on every car?
