Does the 2016 Dodge Charger Have CarPlay?

Does the 2016 Dodge Charger Have CarPlay?

GCH Automotive |

No. The 2016 Dodge Charger doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, even with the big 8.4-inch Uconnect screen. Both showed up for the 2017 model year with a new generation of Uconnect. So does the 2016 Dodge Charger have CarPlay? Not out of the box. The fix is the factory radio from the later cars.

Why a 2016 can't just be updated

For 2017, FCA (now Stellantis) launched its fourth-generation Uconnect 8.4 in the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. It had a sharper screen, faster startup, pinch-and-swipe gestures, and CarPlay and Android Auto. FCA said at the time that the new system couldn't be added to earlier Uconnect generations by upgrading them.

Translation: a dealer can't flash your 2016's radio to get CarPlay. You need the newer radio itself.

The GCH answer: the factory 8.4 UAQ radio

The GCH Dodge Charger/Challenger Navigation 8.4 NAV UAQ Radio w/ Apple CarPlay & Android Auto (2015–2019) swaps in the later factory unit. Here's what the listing says:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen
  • The UAQ version includes factory navigation maps for the USA, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Canada
  • VIN-specific programming included
  • 2015–2016 kits include the USB media hub

Pick the right version

The listing comes in a few versions. For a 2016 car you'll choose between:

  • 2015–2016 / UAQ: navigation, SiriusXM, AM/FM and USB media
  • 2015–2016 / UAS: the non-navigation version

There are also 2017 and 2018–2019 versions. Those are for later cars with a different starting radio, so stick with the 2015–2016 options for your car. The same radio fits the Challenger, and the listing tags 2015–2019 Challengers too.

Does a 2016 even have the 8.4 screen?

Not every Charger does. Some trims came with a smaller display. If you're not sure what's in your dash, send GCH a photo or your VIN before you order. It takes the guesswork out.

Fitment depends on your exact radio and trim. Before you order, confirm your vehicle with GCH using your VIN or radio details.
