Does the 2015 Chevy Tahoe Have CarPlay? (And How to Add It)

Does the 2015 Chevy Tahoe Have CarPlay? (And How to Add It)

GCH Automotive |

No. The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe did not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. CarPlay came to the Tahoe with the 2016 model year, and only on the 8-inch MyLink system. If you own a 2015, it can be added to the existing 8-inch touchscreen with factory GM hardware.

Does the 2015 Chevy Tahoe have CarPlay? The model-year history

The redesigned 2015 Tahoe launched a new generation with an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen in the center stack. GM's smartphone-projection rollout came a year later. In mid-2015 Chevrolet named 14 models for 2016 CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Tahoe and Suburban were on the list, offered only with the 8-inch MyLink unit. At launch that 8-inch system supported CarPlay first, and Android Auto followed later in the model year.

So a 2015 Tahoe has the right screen but the wrong radio hardware and software. GM never offered a field update that brings 2015 radios up to 2016 projection capability.

Identify your radio before you buy

  1. Confirm the 8-inch touchscreen. Both GCH upgrades require the factory 8-inch display.
  2. Read the RPO codes. The Service Parts Identification label in the glove box lists option codes. IO5 is the 8-inch MyLink radio without factory navigation, and IO6 adds navigation. The GCH listing specifies IO5-based radios.
  3. Check for a Projection icon. If your Tahoe already shows one, it has factory CarPlay and doesn't need this upgrade.

Two GCH upgrade paths for the Tahoe

1. CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade

The OEM Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Upgrade for 2015–2016 Chevy Tahoe replaces the radio's internal HMI with current, brand-new OEM GM hardware. Per the listing, it delivers:

  • CarPlay and Android Auto on the factory 8-inch screen, controlled by touch and factory controls
  • A 2.5 processor for faster MyLink response
  • Vehicle-specific programming with no dealer involvement
  • All harnessing and a GPS antenna
  • Plug-and-play installation, typically an hour or less
  • No Bose audio requirement

2. CarPlay plus factory navigation

If you also want the built-in GM navigation, with maps that work without a phone signal, look at the OEM Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Upgrade + Navigation for 2015–2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. This matters on long family trips through areas with weak cell coverage, where phone-based maps can drop out.

Fitment depends on your exact radio and trim. Before you order, confirm your vehicle with GCH using your VIN or radio details.

FAQ

Is a 2016 Tahoe guaranteed to have CarPlay?

No. It depends on the radio fitted. 2016 Tahoes with the 8-inch MyLink system were listed as CarPlay-compatible, so check for the Projection icon or your RPO codes.

Will the upgrade affect my rear-seat entertainment or Bose system?

The listing states Bose audio isn't required. For rear-seat entertainment or other options, confirm fitment with GCH before ordering.

Can I choose between CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes. Both are included, and the system uses whichever phone is connected.

Next step

Have your RPO sticker handy and choose the CarPlay upgrade or the CarPlay + Navigation package. If anything on your label is unclear, contact GCH with your VIN.
